Opportunity in Crisis
There is ancient wisdom that says that in every crisis there is an opportunity. Significant loss is often a life crisis, one that may prompt a deep existential crisis, or “dark night of the soul”. Whether you are dealing with the loss of a loved one, job, home, or your health, consider that within every loss there is the opportunity for growth and change and wisdom. Of course, we may not relish that opportunity, but since the loss has occurred, there is a choice to face it and grow through it with courage.

My Journey Through Loss: Recovering from the loss of a loved one, or any other major loss, is often a difficult journey, especially if you don’t know where to turn for guidance and support. I know, because years ago when I lost a child to brain cancer, it truly felt as though I, and my whole world, had broken apart in tiny fragments. I did not know how to find my way through the pain or put any of the pieces back together. I turned to family and friends who were loving and tried to help, but as hard as they tried, they could not really understand.
One of the pieces of my life that didn’t seem to have meaning any more was my career as a chemist. I knew I had to somehow try to be whole again, so I began to study what I needed to know in order to grieve. This was a slow process of finding my way, but it was through fully experiencing my own grief process that I was inspired to study psychology, philosophy, and spirituality. My study eventually led to a masters degree in psychology, a therapy license, and a life coaching certificate.
So from my loss crisis, I said yes to the opportunity to change my career to one I truly love. There have been many other opportunities as well, such as choosing to live more authentically (loss and grief have a way of cutting through the surface to what is deep and real), and living with more appreciation for life and love.
I would say that the best “gift” from my loss and grief journey has been the incorporation of mindfulness into all aspects of my life. It is truly my passion to bring mindful support to clients on their loss and grief healing journeys.
Besides recovering from the loss of a loved one, Mindful Life Coaching is powerful support for all major life transitions, including divorce, changes in health, loss of job or career, and consciously facing aging and mortality issues.
